Sidestream Pack FAQs

Q. What’s the best filling technique for the Go Pack?
A. Leave the bladder in the pack and fill the pack with mesh side towards you. This way any spills tend to go to the outside of the pack. To maximize volume, after filling, jiggle the bladder a little bit to help the water settle, and then add more.

Q. How strong is retraction on the drink tube?
A. The tension on the drink tube deliberately kept fairly light, so that you won’t be thrown off stride as you draw it up. This also allows you to hold the valve in your mouth for extended sipping. Because of the relatively low tension, you’ll need to give the drink tube a slight assist as it retracts back into the pack.

Q. How much storage does the Go Pack offer?
A. The Go Pack features an accessory pocket that will hold your cell phone, gel pack, and keys. We don’t advise storing extra items in the bladder compartment as this can hamper drink tube retraction. Look for a larger version of the Go Pack with more storage capacity to come out in the near future.

Q. Will the Go Pack keep my water cold in hot temperatures?
A. The pack’s configuration provides excellent thermal protection for the drink tube and bladder. Not only is the drink tube itself insulated, but because of the retraction system, it gets stored inside the pack when not in use. Start out with cold water and drink every 10-15 minutes.

Q. Does the Go Pack work for winter activities?
A. We’ve had great results using the Go Pack for Nordic skiing in temperatures above 20 F for 1 to 2 hours of skiing. If you’re using the pack in freezing temperatures, drink every 10-15 minutes to help keep the tube clear of ice. Make sure and return the bite valve into the bite valve holster after each drink and minimize tube exposure by keeping the holster near the pack opening. Ice formation can be delayed by starting with warm water in the bladder.

Q. How do you keep the Go Pack bladder and tube clean inside?
A. We recommend emptying all fluid out of the bladder, rinsing it out, and then air drying it after each use. To dry out the bladder, remove the screw cap and push the fill port down slightly to expand the bladder so that the bladder walls aren’t touching. For even better drying, remove the bite valve sheath (the bluish silicone piece) from the end of the drink tube, this allows moisture to vent from the tube end as well.

Periodically flush the bladder and tube with clean water and cleaning solution (baking soda/water or commercial bladder cleaner) and leave both to air dry. To clean the pack itself, hand wash the pack with a mild detergent and let it sit or hang to dry. Always wash and rinse the bladder after using sports drinks. Some sports drinks may cause discoloration of the bladder over time.
